Meet 9 bartenders competing in the Hong Kong Professional Mixologist Challenge at HOFEX 2021

30 bartenders will battle it out with cocktails on the theme Journey in a Bottle. The challenge is in Hall 5E on 8 September.

Joey Chow – The Conrad Hong Kong

Joey works in the Pacific Bar at the Conrad hotel. “I look forward to competitions because I get to meet competitors from different places and it’s a great chance for us to communicate,” she says.

Louis Yu – The Peninsula Hong Kong

“My experience in the hospitality industry dates back to when I was a teenager and I started working as a part-time bar server during my studies,” Louis tells us. “After graduating, I worked at various bars before rejoining The Peninsula this year. My maxim is that every customer should be happier than when they came in.”

Marcus Yan – East Hong Kong

For Marcus,cocktails are like endless journeys waiting to be explored.”  He gets inspiration from food and travelling and the joyous memories they produce.

Pauline Escolano – Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel

Pauline has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a love of the food and beverage industry. Her hobby is art – drawing and acrylic paintings – and she brings a touch of art to her drink creations. 

Tidus Lam – The Right Place

Tidus is a bartender at this popular Tsim Sha Tsui outpost. He says, “I am very grateful to be able to take part in the HOFEX Hong Kong Professional Mixologist Challenge, 2021.”

Noelle Wong – Uma Nota

Noelle has worked in the industry for six years. She enjoys making drinks for a variety of guests and the challenge of creating what they will like.

Yiu Yeung Tse – Tiger Party Room

Yiu believes that practice makes perfect. “My aim is to be at my best and to promote and gain more recognition for my signature cocktail and the Tiger Party Room at the Mixologist Challenge.”

Vam Yung – Hong Kong Jockey Club

“This is the second year I’ve joined this cocktail challenge,” Vam tells us. “I’m glad that HOFEX organises it because it’s a great platform for bartenders, and a great way for us and our drinks to be seen.”

Ken Suen – Upper House

Ken, who works at Salisterra, believes that cocktails are a combination of science and creativity. The spirit-and-wine lover enjoys exploring and having fun with creating drinks.
